Nominating Committee’s Slate of Candidates
Mehdi Afshari has been employed at DuPont (Spruance site) since 2011 in the Research & Development group. He has a Ph. D in Polymer & Fiber Science and completed his post-doctoral work at North Carolina State University. He also worked at NCSU as a Research Assistant Professor. His expertise and interests lie in the areas of high-performance polymers, novel process, and product development. Mehdi’s research work has been published in articles in polymer journals, books, and in several patents.
Mehdi is married with two children. He is committed to community involvement and volunteers with the Robotics group at the Chesterfield Library, the Building Richmond group at DuPont, assistant coach in soccer, and wrestling. His hobbies and interests include traveling, reading, and trying various kinds of sports. Mehdi has served as Associate Director for Argent Credit Union since 2014 and looks forward to continuing his service as a member of the Board of Directors.
Antonio H. Harris retired from DuPont in January 2021 after 24 years of service. Before retiring, he held the position of Shift Electrician for Nomex, and prior to that worked as the Maintenance Manager of the Kevlar Pulp division. Recently, Antonio began a new career at
Rust-Oleum as the Plant Maintenance Supervisor.
Antonio has previously served on the Board of Directors for Chesterfield Alternatives, Inc., holding the positions of Treasurer and Chairperson of the Property Management Committee. He has volunteered with Argent Credit Union since 1998, first serving as an Associate Director before moving to the Supervisory Committee. He was re-elected to the Board of Directors in 2000.
Antonio and his late wife Margie have five adult children. In addition to spending time with his family, Antonio enjoys volunteering as a Director of the Board of Argent Credit Union.
Gary D. Miller retired in 2022 after working over 42 years in the Spruance Plant division at DuPont. While at DuPont, Gary was a member of the Spruance IT team and worked with the finance and contract manufacturing teams on the DSAP project.
Gary has a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from North Carolina State University and a Master of Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.
As a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church, Gary has participated in volunteer activities such as Habitat for Humanity, Camp Hanover, and has been on several disaster relief trips to Mississippi, West Virginia, and Florida. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Oktoberfest of Richmond Inc. Gary has served on the Board of Directors for Argent Credit Union since April 2012.
How to Run for a Board Position
The Argent Federal Credit Union Bylaws state that any member wishing to run for a Board position may do so by submitting to the Secretary of the Board of Directors for Argent Credit Union a petition signed by one percent of the membership (as of 12/31/23, 1.0% of membership equals 360).
Said petition must provide a brief biographical sketch of the person running for a Board position. You must also include the signatures of members and their addresses as well as the members’ names in clear print.
NAMES AND ADDRESSES MUST BE LEGIBLE AND VERIFIABLE FOR AUDIT PURPOSES.
Upon completion, the petition must be received by the Secretary of the Board of Directors in care of:

The petition must be received no later than Wednesday, March 20, 2024, to be included on the 2024 ballot.
